Film Thread.
I thought a trio of themed threads about other entertainment media might be good. If you're not interested, please just ignore the thread and pick some threads that interest you from here: http://celephais.net/board/view_all_threads.php

Anyway, discuss films...

NZ -> Europe and back again so something like 12, 11, 12, 10 hours :-) All the hunger games movies where on one flight though...

Did you come to chch mwh?

God all 3 hunger games movies in a row that would have been painful. I got pissed off after the first one when I realised it's just another inferior Battle Royale clone, and then pissed off after the sequel where they just remixed the first movie. It was basically the same movie as the first instead of moving ahead with the uprising plot, they just chuck them in the dome again. A very overrated franchise, not much better than Twilight which can at least progress it's plot.

So, you ... uh ... you watched Twilight, huh?
Lol!
A new episode of Penny Dreadful came out; this show is so cheesy (guilty pleasure) but Eva Green is so awesome, as is the main explorer guy.

I thought the finale of Better Call Saul was really weak.

Kona, no chch this time, I was supposed to but had to rearrange and ended up going via AKL like normal.

The actual hunger games bits are pretty boring in both movies (oo the tension, is katniss going to die? err no), but the stuff outside the games is way less dumb in the second movie.

Looking forward to Penny Dreadful s2. I can't get rid of the image of everyone on set having a nice cup of tea after recording some of the exorcism scenes...

haha yep warren, the gf made me sit through it all. the second to last one was possibly the biggest piece of shit that's ever been made into a movie. it was just a reality tv show that follows the 2 most boring people on the planet on their honeymoon in which they seem to barely know one another and have zero chemistry.

however, the finale and big fight at the end of the series was actually really, really good. I liked the twist, it was quite different.
On Their Honeymoon In Which They Seem To Barely Know One Another And H
That's pretty much the point of the story, Kona.
And it's not a finale, it's a cliffhanger for the last film.

"(oo the tension, is katniss going to die? err no),"

To be fair, that's every action movie ever. Is Bruce Willis going to die in Die Hard? Let me check my magic 8-ball ...

Even so, it doesn't make for very good viewing. Are you a Twilight fan czg?

When I'm referring to the big finale battle I'm talking about the last film, not the honeymoon one, there was no big battle in that, at least that I can recall. I tried my best to delete the entire experience from my memory bank.
Yes, Its A Problem In All Action Movies
That some deal with better than others!

(Although I can't fail to mention Samuel l Jackson getting suddenly eaten in "deep blue sea", an otherwise pretty unmemorable movie...)
Right After Making A Speech Too
lol that movie was awesome

although the real footage of shark attacks in BBC's Planet Earth is more terrifying than any shark movie.
Never Read Or Watched A Twilight

But...
Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?
I Think I Saw The Twilight Fight You Refer To In A Hotel Lobby
While I was waiting for other things to happen.

No blood.
Gayer than usual vampires.
Oh no it was all just a dream (prediction of the future) and nobody really died lets all go home instead.
Also
Has everyone already seen the Netflix Daredevil? (yeah if I took the time to scroll up there's probably 30 posts on it)

Very good, now I understand the point behind the character and the memory of the film fades.
So You're Saying Daredevil Is Good
???

I'm kind of exhausted by superhero stuff these days though a tv show format might revitalize that for me...

I wonder how many people were saying the exact same thing back when Smallville was new.
Smallville
firstly, ugh smallville.

secondly, completely different landscape re superhero movies which went through a revitalization but seem, to me at least, to be entering a period of hardcore genre stagnation.
A generalization but you know.

yeah i've been reading daredevil is easily better than all the other superhero tv series', which haven't been too bad

at what episode does daredevil start being good? first one was pretty cringy.
Daredevil
I'm at episode 10 and it hasn't started being good yet. :)
It's watchable as background noise while working, but it's still full of all the beaten-to-death superhero tropes we've already seen a hundred times, accompanied by cliche characters and mediocre dialogs.
I'm managing to watch it despite hating superheroes, so I guess maybe it's good for people who are into this "genre".

"hating superheroes"

Why would you ever start watching a show about super heroes if you hate the genre? It would be like me turning on a sportsball tournament. Why would I do that to myself?
Warren
Many of my friends and colleagues have been pestering me to watch it, saying I would like it despite my dislike of the genre.
That and I always find it useful to have some shows like this as background noise while working at home, if they are too good I can't get any work done. :)
Oh And
The fighting is pretty good for TV stuff, definitely above average in that department (not something I care so much about, but it's worth mentioning probably).
Agree
Fighting is good, the rest isn't.
