Wife picked it out a few weeks ago, it was pretty good. It's not gonna scare the shit out of you (at this point, will any movie?)
The babadook had some tense parts and some aspects that were interesting. The portrayal of a recently widowed woman caring for her son who seems to have slight autism or adhd was believable and engaging. I was raised by a single mother and the character in the movie seemed real/relateable in many ways. The director, Jennifer Kent, did a good job IMO, especially for a first film.
The cinematography was interesting, clever and effective. No awful CGI but there were a couple of instances of stock sound effects that you've heard a million times before (even in heretic and other video games).
I'd say it was worth a watch. The last horror movie I saw before that was "the conjuring" which I thought was awful.
For reference/perspective, these are some horror movies that I thought were effective: The Thing (1988-89), The Exorcist and The Ring. Oh, and Ghostbusters (those ghost dogs gave me chronic nightmares when I was 8 years old :D)

Last one I saw was Oculus, about a possessed mirror that can take control of people. Really fucking weird idea but it actually worked pretty well, it was quite a cool movie. You don't know what's real and what the mirror is making the characters see, because you only ever see from the characters perspective, not what really happened.

Here Is A Funny Scene From Scarface

There is a masked character in Scarface that gets killed in nightclub by random fire named Octavio.

Apparently, they shot an extra scene featuring Octavio, but removed it.
/If you watch the scene, it wouldn't have fit well in the movie. They did the right thing.
