J.A.C.K. 1.1.1212 Steam Release
Greetings!

I promised that J.A.C.K. will be eventually released on Steam in Q4 2016. And today it has finally become available in Steam Store!

Steam-specific features:

* Automatic Configuration: creation of game configurations in the editor in a couple of clicks.
* SteamCloud Service: cloud storage for maps, ability to synchronize with local files.
* Automatic Update: keep your editor up-to-date with all the recent features and bugfixes!
* Steam Fun: achievements, stats and trading cards.

Version 1.1.1212 highlights:

* VHE-style Texture soring in Texture Browser (animated and random-tiled textures of the same group are placed nearby).
* Up/Down arrow keys and PgUp/PgDown scroll Texture Browser contents.
* When creating a brush primitive, its name is shown above the frame in 2D-views.
* Alt+clicking during Vertex Manipulation prevents from selecting other brushes - only vertices and/or edges are selected.
* Lots of improvements and bugfixes, as usual.
* The detailed reference manual.

If you want to support J.A.C.K., and willing to get updates and bugfixes as soon as possible - you can buy it in Steam Store (there is a launch discount until Dec 23, 2016). Please also give it a positive review, if possible; it would be very helpful also! But if you don't want to spend money - no problem! As I promised, there will be completely free cumulative versions with almost the same feature set. The only missing features will be Steam-specific features listed above. The release of the next free version is scheduled in Q1 2017.

Version 1.1.1212 supports the same set of games/engines: Quake, Hexen II, Quake II, Quake III, Half-Life, Gunman Chronicles and their modifications.
Supported operating systems: Windows, Linux.
Supported architectures: x86 (32-bit), amd64 (64-bit).

Achievements and trading cards are a bit wtflol in this context... guess now you have go all in and create a badge, too!

"GO MAP" or "I MAPPED"

...or "I MADE A MAP--- and all I got was a bunch of leaks"

Cool, got it.

q3map2.exe is recognized as a virus. Maybe it's worth doing some custom/fixed build of compiler, to avoid this problem (?)
Congratulations
Congrats on the release!
Achievements....
"I MADE A MAP"

Go on negke, see if you can manage it ;)
Monies Thrown
now i need to go map.
also nice touch with achieves :>
Bler
Too much grinding involved!
Bought It
congrats

Is there an automated way to import the configuration from the non-Steam version?

I've just bought JACK on Steam, and upon launch it didn't detect that the non-Steam version was already installed.
I Should Get This On Principal.
I have been using J.A.C.K. a little and I give it my stamp of approval. It's exactly like Worldcraft. 8D I need to finish a few maps....
I don't get paid until Monday though.
(has older version already installed - no excuse not to map)
Khreathor
real mappers use CMD!
Does The Pay Version...
Trash your Worldspawn settings, too?

So MalwareBytes keeps tagging the JACK exe from Steam as having generic ransomware in it ... what's up with that?

XaeroX never replied in this thread.

Regardless ... am I the only one to see this? It seems odd that I would be.
@warren
Maybe contact Steam support and start a ticket if you can't get an answer from the author... assuming you have that version of course.
I've Found Xaerox To Be Very Responsive On Twitter

Got a one liner half-joke in response ... I guess that'll have to do.

what was his response?

Is JACK a ransomware virus? It depends. It's actually a philosophical point. Some guys consider selling JACK a kind of "extortion", really.)

Try https://www.virustotal.com/ - it runs 60+ antivirus scanners. I tried the non-steam JACK and it's 100% clean.

Thanks! I imagine it's clean ... I can't think of how it wouldn't be. Was just hoping for some confirmation from the author but I guess $14 doesn't buy me that privilege. :)
It's More Like
this have happened a lot in around the last 5-10 years, Virus scanners everywhere that say there is virus in completely clean programs. That's why XaeroX took it with humour.

I get it. But at the same time - I'm a paying customer. A simple, clear answer isn't asking that much.

Couldn't agree more. You'd expect this from an open source author and it would be understandable but we paid for the software.
Seems Ok, Go MAP!
