Talent(ful?)less Hacks
Just curious, how many of you consider yourself to have some kind of affinity for artistic/creative stuff? Like, do you draw, take pictures, make music, shoot movies/pr0n... whatever? And the obivious follow up question, does it help/influence your map making?

I have a hard time drawing stickmen, myself...

Arts in general have taught me one thing when it comes to mapping. It isn't good until you like it. Screw others.

Damn straight. Even moreso with music in my case. I had a track last year which I posted on another forum (music based). Everyone liked it, some said it was one of their favourite tunes of the whole year (this was around October time...) and others said I should send it off to various labels since it'd apparently get signed on the spot. However, I personally think it's shit & riddled with technical errors, and refuse to do anything with it for that reason, no matter how many other people like it.

Listened to your track by the way. Can't say it's really my thing but it sounded pretty nice... would make good soundtrack music for a movie/game.
Well
Once I dropped some food on the floor and it kinda looked like art. Sorta.
Yeah...
...I paid the rent for a few years playing keyboards, but at the mo I'm heavily into my Maton fretless bass. I see the connections that blitz outlines and have on occasion tried to use musical motifs in mapping but I've never got it to work to my satisfaction.

When I look through the masses of lines in editor (I rarely use vis groups, that's just the way I like it) I see a text rather than a song (not "text", I don't pretend to be neo). I love diving into the mass and isolating first the section, then the piece that I need to work on (seeing the part in relation to other parts and the whole as much as possible). I guess that's my critical thinking background coming up, and whether critical thinking is art or artiface is a moot question.
Music....?!
MUZAK!!!!!

Bloody hell Fric I expected some unlistenable esoteric techno or something, not that....
Hm

Yeah No
None of the thing.

... I like to build lego tho, but I never do.

I'm a web designer, musician and like the occasional photography and mapping but there's really no connection between any for me.

Well, it IS Goldsmith's movie score composition, I just orchestrated it. Gotta find some use for all these orchestra CDs.

Art is like mapping. One must not get stuck doing the same thing over and over. Trying something wildly different can give you new valuable insights. And if I see one more Q2 waste themed map I'll invade Norway.

Explains it then :-p

You normally make techno? Got a site with any hosted perchance?
Yes And No.
The complete tracks aren't good enough for public consumption. I do kinda like how the current project is shaping up though. http://www.kolumbus.fi/ville.nieminen/junkula.mp3

And wasn't this thread supposed to be atleast vaguely mapping related? :)
Fric...
...phat.

I rather like it. I see you're also holding out on us ;) : http://www.modarchive.com/artists/n3/ ... 1st one I tried was too "beepy" but Climax sounds like a good game track, in compact .it format no less.

I go back much further in music than mapping, not necessarily great but deeply ingrained learning (more like playing games than mapping for them ;0 ). Some old and band stuff (tracks back on-line now) accessible through my main page at http://www.intergate.com/~spentron ... someday I might get around to putting some older band stuff up too.
Wow...
i'm surprised you found the modarchive page. that thing is ancient... that was before i started mapping.
also, back in the day, i was good at ripping other songs without letting people know. apparently, i was a real asshole. climax is a big rip of a whole load of prodigy songs. sorry. ;)
the new stuff at the mp3.com.au site is completly original though. kicked the bad habit i guess. ;)

there's some trance stuff there btw, for those interested in it.
:E

...I Am Not A Hack I Am Not A Hack I Am Not...
waiting till the Monster-Art toppic turns me into a humanoid, but I fear the Orges will begin a new toppic about that.

And yes, almost so inspired to make music for the Quake convertion I am making, but then I get two fronts of art lovers against me in the harnash...

I Think When Reading Madfox's Posts
its best to think of them as a new language.

whether that language is good or bad, is of course, open to intrepretation [or should that be translation?].

lost in translation..? ;)
Esperanto
It is not as bad as someone asking which radiostation you prefer when showing him quakemaps...
You Know...
it's not so much your english -- your vocabulary is fine, it's just that your sentences don't make sense. either that, or your mind is too complex for me to comprehend.
I Am Not Singing, Am I?
I know my attitude of converse is not usual.
That's because with translating arise other ideas, I don't mean.

I heard your music, thought it right, but then there is something I can't explain. That's what I ment with -like turn it off-
Ever turned it into musicnotes, you will know what I try to say. Or not.

Let's say Monteverdi took a long time to converse his note-system, before people in other countries could play the same musicnotes.
