So with the film and music threads still going and being discussed... why don't we get some discussion going on something on topic to the board? What other games are you playing now?

Stray
I would keep an open mind with Stray.
Castle is actually responsible for some of the maps in the semi-official Doom 2 wad 'No Rest For The Living'.

Were they good maps?

I hope he can at least make an effort to animate the models instead of having them floating across the floor. The Imp models looks alright too, so it could have promise, one day. The fact this gets shown publically suggests he thinks it's okay already.
Yes, They Were Good
I believe castle and one other were responsible for No Rest for the Living.

I hope he can at least make an effort to animate the models instead of having them floating across the floor. The Imp models looks alright too, so it could have promise, one day. The fact this gets shown publically suggests he thinks it's okay already.

I think you're confusing two separate projects by different people? The doom stuff in UE is not Stray.

btw. I'm playing Serious Sam's Bogus Detour
Very nice game! Huge props for modding capabilities.
Kona
they were excellent maps, bundled with the XBLA version of Doom 2 (hence semi-official). In fact it became my default way of playing Doom 2 for a long time.
I trust he will spend a lot of time nailing down the gameplay mechanics before anything else.
Started Alien Isolation.
A bit late I know but hey it's not that previous-gen. Very nice gfx and atmosphere. Surprising variety of interactions so far. But the ridiculous sparse auto-saves (none by any significant gameplay events / pauses / cutscenes) and the trial and error stealth mechanics really suck dick together. Scary alien and synths are less scary when you're bored replaying from half an hour back.

5.5/10 so far.

You're aware there are manual save points, right?
@Shambler Re: AlienISO
May I offer you a "tip(or 2)". No spoliers ofc.

As Skacky pointed out there are save stations scattered about that beep pretty distinctly when you are near.

For me the only thing wrong with that game is how on Nightmare the humans are 360 no scope one shot aim bots :( And also, on any difficulty they shoot through "solid" matter.

I used to speedrun it, have over 1200 hours in game!!
Too Late
Already uninstalled/removed from account/refunded.
Save Stations.
Yeah I know those.

I use a save station. Then I play a bit and continue through the game. I complete a task. There's a mini-cutscene. No auto-save like there would be in every other post-2000 non-Souls game ever released. I play a bit more. The Alien appears, decides out of the 15 route choices around whatever particular maze I'm in, it will choose the one that involves eating my fucking face off. Die, reload....back at the fucking save station which might as well be on a different planet. Play a bit, task, cutscene, etc again. This time do all of that, then retrace steps to the save station that is miles back, retrace steps forward, etc etc.

Stop running around and the Alien won't catch you.
SURE THING BRO
When I have to complete a mission like get some fucker's keycard and I hear and track the alien going to the far side of the complex and creep out towards the keycard and/or next hiding place and suddenly the fucking thing trots back and glares at from me from 3m away, I'll just sit there and hope it thinks I'm a piece of funny-shaped furniture and not SCOOP MY BRAINS OUT THROUGH MY FACE LIKE IT DID IN EXACTLY THAT SAME SITUATION LAST NIGHT which was when I gave up playing.

Walking and running makes noise and attracts the Alien. Crouching doesn't. Not my fault you're bad at the game.
Yeah Funny That I Was Obviously Crouching.
It is your fault that you're bad at giving advice on the interwebs tho.
A Few Things...
Walking by itself will not drop the Alien but, if he's already down, then walking will be dangerous.

Crouching everywhere is so slow that it makes the game harder, as it allows the Alien to troll you.

Same as using lockers, they are really counter productive and simply should be a last resort.

Once you get into the pattern of the Alien trolling you, that's when the repetitive death's rage sets in.

The game has amazing audio cues that you could use alone to beat the game. Knowing when the Alien goes "up", and then moving forward towards your goal is key. ***This is only if you have not got into the trolling phase with the Alien though.

Then when you hear him drop down, you need to get comfortable at being uncomfortable around a "dropped" Alien. While still trying to move around, and use the environment to hide from him.

Use the tracker only when needed. It has warning sounds even when not pulled up that pretty much let you know what's going on.

I've watched a ton of streams and some reason most players don't think to use items very well.

I remember enjoying my second plathruogh as much as, and almost more than, the first. The experience(knowing my way around the station) I gained in the first allowed for exploration and better interactivity with the Aliens/humans/Joe's.

Anyways, that's my take. I feel the game is truly a masterpiece. 9.9/10 from moi :)
RTSSSSSSSSSSSS
http://store.steampowered.com/app/281610/Homeworld_Deserts_of_Kharak/

£10. Just get the damn thing. Best RTS in recent years. Slick, well-themed, streamlined, just good.

1 Hour Of The New Xcom 2 Expansion

Just waiting for a shitty game to install I'll let ya'll know of a few I played lately:

Metro: Last Light - 8.5/10
It's funny that Metro gets away with a lot of things other games would be hammered for (extremely linear, not the greatest AI, pointless upgrade system, and just being a straightforward FPS really) . But it's my kind of game; slow, atmospheric, detail-rich. Having said that, I didn't bother completing the DLC's even though I had them, so perhaps the length was just right. Much more forgiving and more action, less survival than the first game. It's a shame the filters force me to rush all the outdoor sections and just run past most of the enemies, I think they need to fix that for Metro3. But yeah overall I loved it.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - 6/10
Very average, web swinging is hideous, keys layout a mess. The characters and boss battles were good though, and the stealth kills are fun. By the end of the six hours I found myself really getting the hang of all the different attack types and it was becoming pretty fun. Just takes a while to get there.

Enemy Front - 7/10 (metacritic 52%!!)
I feel like the games industry just loves to violently assfuck any game that tries to hark back to an age of simple FPS's, unless you're a well known franchise (COD, Battlefield, Metro, Bioshock, Wolfenstein, Far Cry, Crysis). City Interactive made a tonne of these basic WW1/2 based shooters, they've come back to do another one with Enemy Front but with much better graphics (CryEngine) than their old games (Lithtech from memory). But everyone just shits on it because it's paint by number WW2 FPS. So fucking what? I love WW2 FPSs! There's actually not a huge difference between this game and Metro, except that Enemy Front takes itself a lot less seriously. The gameplay isn't all that different. Or any COD, MOH, Battlefront game. Enemy Front is a lot more basic, you pretty much just use the sniper rifle, enemies are dumb, story is weak. It's the same old German/Russian locations we've seen before. But I had a lot of fun with it.

Game of Thrones - A Telltale Games Series - 5.5/10
Another Telltale games slog. I play these games for the story because after 1-2 Telltale Games you realise that different endings and having any plot choice making a difference, is a lie. Story in this good, but the writers just copied GOT writers in having the protagonists repeated kicked and tortured and in the end can't even have them win. Just about every good guy in this thing gets murdered and in the end I just couldn't give a fuck anymore. GOT the tv-series crosses the line in killing off characters for shock value (and GRRM trolling all the fans imo) but GOT Telltale writers just laugh at that line, kick it out of the ballpark, you just completely disconnect from the story because there's no payoff or hope at all with the characters you've put 12 fucking hours into suffering their torture. Bordlands Telltale game next :D
Kona In....
...Playing good game and giving it good rating correlation shocker ;)

Metros do transcend their basic structure. I think it's the details, atmosphere, and sheer sense of place they have. And all the Russianness.
