Today I am releasing TrenchBroom 1.0 for Windows and Mac OS X. TrenchBroom is a modern cross-platform level editor for Quake.

Features
- True 3D editing, no 2D views required
- High performance renderer with support for huge maps
- Vertex editing with edge and face splitting
- Manipulation of multiple vertices at once (great for trisoup editing)
- Smart clip tool
- Move, rotate and flip brushes and entities
- Precise texture lock for all operations
- Smart entity property editors
- Graphical entity browser with drag and drop support
- Comprehensive texture application and manipulation tools
- Search and filter functions
- Unlimited undo and redo
- Point file support
- Automatic backup
- Support for .def and .fdg files, mods and multiple wad files
- Free (as in beer) and open source (GPLv3)
- Cross platform (Windows, Mac OS X and Linux supported)

Check out a video of TrenchBroom in action here.

You can download the editor here.

If you would like to give feedback, please do that in this thread. If you find a bug or have a feature suggestion, please submit them at the issue tracker.

If you are wondering where the Linux binaries are then sorry, but currently there are none. The Linux version has a few problems which I could not fix before this release. I will get working on those right away so that the Linux version should be available in a couple of weeks, too.

Finally, I would like to thank necros for all his work over the past year. Without his tireless efforts, TrenchBroom would simply not exist. Or it would suck.

Alright, enough of this. Have fun with the editor!

All Textures Are Red
I have a problem with textures in the engine. They like small black/white rectangles but in red color.
Smash Door:
Pink/black checkerboard pattern in game is an indication that the textures are missing from the BSP file, which means the compiler probably couldn’t find the wad file, or the wad does not contain all needed textures.
Paths Paths Paths
If you having issues in mapping Quake, always check your paths in your tools.
TrenchBroom 2022.1 Release Candidate 1
Congrats
Thanks to you and ericw for all your hard work on this one. Can't wait to crack this open.

that is big. thank you for all the hard work!
TrenchBroom 2022.1 Release Candidate 2
TrenchBroom 2022.1 Release Candidate 2 is out: https://github.com/TrenchBroom/TrenchBroom/releases/tag/v2022.1-RC2 - this is just a minor update that adds Quetoo support, more installers for Linux, and one bug fix
TrenchBroom 2022.1
Just in time for your hot summer mapping on the northern hemisphere: TrenchBroom 2022.1 https://github.com/TrenchBroom/TrenchBroom/releases/tag/v2022.1

So, linked groups are like prefabs? Can we build a few and share with others?
TrenchBroom 2022.2
Wrong Icon And A Typo :D

MD5 support is huge. Thanks!
TrenchBroom 2023.1 Release Candidate 1
TrenchBroom 2023.1 Release Candidate 1 is out now. This is mostly a bugfix release with a few smaller enhancements. Get it here and don’t forget to report any problems: https://github.com/TrenchBroom/TrenchBroom/releases/tag/v2023.1-RC1

Thank you SleepwalkR! TrenchBroom is amazing and it is awesome to see it becoming popular across multiple modding communities and also indie game dev circles.
Q3
How close is the q3 support?

Is it close enough that if I put together a theoretical q3 mapping set for TrenchBroom with some asterisks that it would be "worthwhile"?

As I understand it, TrenchBroom uses .def like Radiant. Does it also support .fgd? I only ask because TrenchBroom features have grown over time, I wouldn't be surprised.

Thanks!

The only part of those that functionally matters, for creating new maps, is patch editing. For the map format just use "valve 220" which modern compile tools also support.
Ah, Too Bad ...
I go to start TrenchBroom, get pretty excited since it has evolved since the last time I used (and as a mostly non-mapper that was years ago) ...

I click Quake or Quake 3 ...

TrenchBroom.exe has stopped working.
(TrenchBroom 2023.1 Release Candidate 1)

This is the 32 bit build for Windows, I am on Windows 7 at the moment .. this machine has had previous versions of TrenchBroom on it, it may be possible old config is messing it (where do I need to look?)

Will try prior version and 64 bit ...

Hmmm ..

64 bit -- TrenchBroom 2023.1 Release Candidate 1

"TrenchBroom.exe has stopped working. "

64 bit -- TrenchBroom 2022.2

This is after I select "Quake". The folder is set to c:\quake ...

Works fine on my Windows 10 laptop, which is enough for me to do what I'm trying to do here, make a q3 map set for TB.

I like the improvements in TrenchBroom since te last time I used it.

Very nice!

And .fgd support.

Wonderful!

Now I only need to make a .def file if I decide to support Radiant, reigning champion of least user friend map editor ever created.

Anyway, awesome advances in TrenchBroom compared to years ago!
Thanks!
Note that TB also supports ent files if that helps at all.

This is the second report I get of TB not working on Windows older than Windows 10. Could you post the crash report if you got any? It should be in your home folder.
