To show you what the speedrunners of today are capable of, Jozsef Szalontai (one of the top speedrunners) has made a promo video with video clips from different runs and tricks made by prominent speedrunners and tricksters. The flick weighs in at just under 100MB and runs over 5 minutes in length.

I've got to say, some of that shit is just fucking hilarious. Excellent excellent stuff. I was laughing like a loon midway through there. I'd like to see some of that on custom maps too. (Other than the 200 shamblers in a box one I mean.)
One thing tho:
WHY THE FUCK WAS THIS RECORDED IN A ENGINE THAT MAKES QUAKE LOOK LIKE A MOTHERFUCKING PLASTIC FETISHIST'S DREAM?
Holy crap people, the "3D Maze" screensaver that came with windows 95 looked better. Not only were the textures from that horrid retexturing project used, but wtf?!? Randomly placed coloured lights?!? I can render prettier shit in MSPaint!!! Of actual shit!!! And still have it look more inviting!!! !!!
Eherm...
Yes, besides that, it totally rocked. Can't wait to see more.

I like the idea, and some of the moves were very cool, but due to the textures and items the maps were almost unrecognizable.
Also, it started to feel rather same-ish after about halfway through. I think that is partly because there was no context (I.E. actually getting to the RL instead of using it) and instead it was just a bunch of strafe jumping and RL/GL jumps.
And yes, it would have been cool to see some stuff done on custom maps.

That if you try to download a new-ish file, there's a good chance you'll get a file not found error. Refreshing the page fixes it though...
