Inspiration & Reference
I just wanted to know if people had any links to good websites for either level design inspiration (photos, paintings, concept art, etc.) or just for architectural reference. We had a thread like this on the old qmap, but we know how much good that does us.

Arch Sketches
=~) * TEARS *

oh man. oh boy

that guy is amazingly good. the amount of control in that first sketch ...
Meh
His perspective looks a bit off on the Coliseum. :D
(Great sketching otherwise.)
INK FTW!

Ruins On DeviantArt
Wish this could be done faithfully in-engine.

^^
I don't want the detail, I don't want the high resolution. I just want atmospheric fog.

Leave everything else at blocky Quake resolution and limits and give me glowing layers of fog.
Fuck Yeah

I can upload a huge collection of of his work (admittedly with some duplicate entries) if people are interested.
At Least One Of Those Pics Is Not Beksinski, But Wayne Barlowe

My Bad
My barlowe & beksinski folder is an unlabelled mess, that's my bad.

Beksinski is boner inducing stuff ... I have a few of his art books but I'd love to take a look at what you've got if you can host it somewhere.

2nd album has a bunch of dupes and non Beksinski but its still pretty neat stuff so I saw no reason not to include it.
Great Collection, Saving All These
only got into beksinski recently, long time fan of barlowe, though.

would like to find similar art/artists. there's giger, but, eh...

Kuksi is similar to giger/beksinski. I had a bunch of dark surreal art similar to these artists bookmarked somewhere.
^ Incredible
This one could be Manhattan's Leftovers, by Daya:

beksinski is like if giger were into images of religion and war-torn poland instead of spacedicks

A Sort Of Request
So, googling for the answer just throws up unhelpful rubbish so I'll ask here.

Here is a picture of part of Csesznek Castle in Hungary. See those wooden beams just sticking out of the walls, making it look like a gritty, next-gen version of KerPlunk?

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/32/V%C3%A1rrom_%289806._sz%C3%A1m%C3%BA_m%C5%B1eml%C3%A9k%29_7.jpg

My question is: what the heck are those beams for, and is this an architectural feature that has a name?
Kinn
I have a few guesses.

Could be simple rafters for some kind of awning. Or, could be reinforcing whatever interior structure's going on in there (like maybe a staircase?). OR, could be the remnants of a hourde: Scroll down to Hourdes

Also check out that cute picture of the dude sittin on the beam with a hammer.

oh god thank you so much for reminding me about liartown

Post #32474 has a passage about the tower (beginning with 'A falszoros dlkeleti...'). It says the beams used to hold a hourde, as NarNar has guessed. The aricle was written by the author and has not been published (yet).
