I think that Joel is right and that it's just loaded from archive.org. The guy behind the site just seemed to pick stuff that was iconic for that era.
Donde Quake 2 also has a lot of stuff archived if you're looking to take a trip down memory lane, although most of it is obviously focused on Quake 2. They have a snapshot of
Redwood's page on Stomped, which actually looks like it was taken in 97.

Sorry that I deleted the spam so your clever response lacks context

Let it be one of those Quake mysteries that people will come across in 10 years time and wonder "what the fuck was THAT all about then?"

1 hour of a guy explaining needless stuff, while missing the point most of the time, and mentioning Duke3D way too often. I hope OTP will correct him.

BTW posting anonymously to drive-by-poop on things was old when Quake was young.

This is kinda funny — this flickering light pattern from quake is still around and can be seen in Half Life Alyx:
https://kotaku.com/ancient-90s-code-from-quake-still-controls-lights-in-h-1847105972

Yeah
but not quite as cool as:
// johnfitz new lightstyles
// 12 ALARM PULSE
lightstyle(12, "zxvtrpnlj");
// 13 STROBE-PULSE COMBO (first variety)
lightstyle(13, "jalanaparatavaxazaxavatarapanala");
// 14 STROBE-PULSE COMBO (second variety)
lightstyle(14, "zaxavatarapanalajalanaparatavaxa");
// 15 VANITY
lightstyle(15, "johnfitzgibbons");
// 16 LANDING BEACON STROBE
lightstyle(16, "mmaammaammaammaa");

Quick Question.
Can a protocol 666 demo be somehow modified to be a protocol 15 demo?

in theory yes, by stripping out the extra data (protocol 666 is basically 15 plus extra data) but... a custom tool would need to be written to do this.

BJP's convdem can convert 10002 to 15, so in theory it should have much of the code to handle 666 as well. That is, if he still has the source code.
