So Shambler Looks Like We Agree

I dont know whether I should be worried...
 Checks Out.

Unfortunately, none of that is especially riveting. Too much of the first two episodes are spent letting us know just how damaged everyone is.
Pizzolatto has inexplicably made every character in this season spout clipped and elliptical phrases. They begin to pile up so quickly that you soon realize theres no flow to the characters, no realism to them. They seem like cardboard cut-outs.
(...) but like everything else in these early episodes, it all feels too stylized.

I think given what I'd read I was expecting it to be even more over the top. Still a pretty wild and entertaining ride, probably best not to think about it too hard (you certainly can't while it's all happening...)

Fuck the hipster critics and their backlash, so far this is awesome and very much for the same reasons as the first season - the intense and modern post-industrial take on noir, the craft, the ominous mood, the depiction of the corruption of the environment as a problem no one could ever solve....

Yah - i have :) expectations about Mad Max. Theron is just the cream.
Just saw Exodus today. Hmmm - well below Scott's other movies. The totally irritating Child God was interesting, but the movie just never connected with me.

Seen it, not bad really, quite enjoyed.
I see a parallel with Dredd there in the approach, a "let's just get it done action movie". Which is the best.
One drawn out action mission, in the thick of it, start to end, not much fluff, nice setting/wacko characters.

Watched first episode of Mr. Robot. No idea if it turns out good but I am hooked. If you like Deux Ex music and Max Payne voice-overs, give it a try. So far those sold it for me, the rest is a bit so-so.

The best show of summer so far, by a comfortable margin. It's paranoid viewpoint, the layer of unreality which covers pretty much every scene, the vast unpredictability...so many good things.
 Yup

Big Hero 6 is fun if you like animation movies with clich but decent story and great if you appreciate good CGI (the lighting is really impressive).
 Yes.

Spot on. Really nicely done film of it's style, and great animation.

Monumentally silly, very obviously from the same people as kick-ass, not as good and gets the tone wrong IMO in a few ways, especially at the end. Pretty funny and definitely passes the time though.

A bag of bits that doesn't really fit together all that well but certainly not boring. Better than Elysium for sure.

That and Forbrydelsen are easily the two best things I saw last year.
 The Martian

...was really good. Captured the book and the character - and the humour - well, albeit skipping some of the Mars bits and emphasising the Earth bits, which I think was necessary to make it a more palatable, pacy film.
Love hollywood sci-fi and fantasy. There's some gems, and even when it's mediocre the effects and ambience normally carry it ok.

Inside Out (2015): So patronizing and childish that it got deleted after about 20 minutes. Jeesh, wtf, Pixar?

I think I've grown out of Pixar films. Or maybe they're just more childish now or something?
 Upcoming Science Fiction

The Man In the High Castle, looks good so far.
Childhood's End - we need more Clarke adaptations, hopefully they don't screw this up.
Apparently there's going to be more Black Mirror, so that should be great. The last one (the xmas special) continued the tradition of dark hilarity perfectly.
Not science fiction, but Fargo season 2 seems pretty great so far. Bruce Campbell as Ronald Reagan... such an awesome idea.
Never saw the appeal in Pixar or any stuff like that.

Anyone been watching Ash vs Evil Dead? First 2 episodes have been great so far - AOD Ash is back!
