StealthQuake420 Mapping Competition
Quake - Stealth Quake 420
Level Design Endurance Competition
June till QExpo 2008

::...---===[({ ^ * * * ^ })]===---...::

You are the slipgate warrior. You've travelled for what seems like forever, in search of that one gate that will take you ... home. This time round, the trip seems to have dehydrated you excessively and you find yourself lost in the midst of a fever dream. Memories of lost friends and lovers, and pets, and nightmarish visions of horrible creatures all seem so true to life you cannot trust if you're really dreaming, and mostly they want to kill YOU!

::...---===[({ ^ * * * ^ })]===---...::

Inspired by:
- Quake (thanks id)
- Coagula (thanks ELEK)
- The Coagula mapping competition (that was probably also ELEK)
- StealthQuake (thanks Kell, necros, and Preach)
- The writings of Harriet Beecher Stowe (thanks ELEK)

Your Motivation:
- glory
- http://youtube.com/watch?v=yDwiQQXBBkI
- because you'll be the only person to finish by the deadline

::...---===[({ ^ * * * ^ })]===---...::

The Limits:
- The exit must be hidden in a secret
- The map must incorporate at least three clever QC hacks from that one thread I can't find
- Must have no purely white lights
- The map must be built with exactly 420 brushes
- The map must use exactly 88 entities
- The map must crash all engines except TomazQuake
- Monsters are limited to spawns, rottweilers, Armagon turrets, and Armagon
- The level must have Easy, Medium, and Hard but not Nightmare difficulty implemented
- Map can only be textured with:
-- the ALICE.wad ( http://shub-hub.com/files/textures_wads/alice_tex.rar ) and,
-- the DOOM3.wad ( http://shub-hub.com/files/textures_wads/doom2.zip )
-- Map must use textures from both wads
- There must be at least 1024^3 volume of lava in the map
- Use a sky texture with the 15th (orange fullbright) row of the Quake palette
- The level must exit to 'czg07b' which must then be beatable with the weapons and ammo the player carries over
- Construction must take place in the dark, only after eating curry
- The map must be compiled with the original id tools and take longer to vis than it did to build

Obviously these all interrelate.

Submission:

-- a fastvised, questionably lit .bsp named 'stealthQuake508.bsp'
--- a matching .map for brush and entity number checking
---- a log of the final compile, run with -verbose
----- over 1mb of screenshots
------ scanned images of all curry receipts
------- a matching .txt thanking those who helped you and explaining the inspiration of your fever dream
-------- the contents of the above .txt in a wordperfect document also containing the screenshots
--------- the contents of the above wordperfect document in a .pdf also containing the curry receipts

Maps?
I reckon this will get more...

Im making one
That One Condition
crash in all engines but Tomaz might be
tough to pull off. You could eliminate most engines by compiling it with the Half-Life tools, but then Dark Places can do that as well.

Sooo Bamby,
You didn't get enough of a flame fix with the GA thread topic that circulated in bitter but understated glory, you find the best solution to keep that fire burning is to remind people of this old post. Smoooth.

Needs a slight correction Kinn, for our friends of other needs . . . .

, not that there is anything wrong with the I love you in that I want to my penis in your body cavities sort of way.
And My Correction Needs A Correction
Awesome!
Lol!

I Thought
Shambler had bumped it recently but it was in June. Sorry. Mistakes happen when I don't bother to log in.
Bamby
My apologies (though the criticism was pretty mild, still warrants an apology), I see that the time stamp on the GA posts that points to this thread was made before your post. I didn't see that earlier, don't know how, as Metl uses a bright gold to show the number of new post to a topic, but Merry Christmas.
