All these action remakes such as Predators need to have a long hard look at Dredd.
 Yeah,

To learn how to make a remake dull, rather than just cheesy.

Tosser. You are dull :D

- bit too much heavy breathing
- ending a bit drawn out
- got a bit sappy at the 'if you meet a girl with knots in her hair...' part (can't remember the exact wording)
otherwise awesome. tense and very original, definite benchmark film for breathtaking effects (seriously, those debris collisions!)
and i liked the scene that bothered nitin. it didn't seem right at the time but everything clicked afterwards

World War Z: Great beginning but shallow illogical shit from then on.
Red 2: As good as the first one. Yay!

The trailer for 7th Son looked pretty badass (yes yes I know) so I was in the mood for some magic type fighting movie.
witches, pirates, scientists, whiskey-drinking talking polar bears, and cowboys, join forces to battle the Catholic Church and their shock troops, Nazis and Eskimo warriors. Lol.... Almost seems like a caricature of fantasy and the ideas to be found there. I found the weird ideas and the portrayal of the church as this giant parasitic, nefarious organization bent on stomping out free thought and the imagination, quite amusing.

Serious Jackie Chan thriller which is really nice until the last ~1/4 where everything explodes.

I actually watched a movie ON TV! For the first time in must be 5 years. Pretty good, got the impression about 20 minutes before the end that they didn't know how to end it, only to find at the end that they didn't know how to end it. I was hoping that Elise was some kind of counter-plan revolutionary for a while...

Rewatched Dredd, yup still as good. FUCKING good. Mr (ahem Judge) Dredd is just beyond balls to the wall awesome, they really captured the dudes vibe. I heard rumors of sequel ?
Otherwise Europa Report very neat recovered footage space mission movie, liked it, had not heard of it even tho Moon and Gravity and other space themed scifi seems to have had fair publicity going round.
Good in any case.

BSG Final Season - Finally finished this series off, the last season was definitely the most uneven but there's a quite a few really good episodes (Sometimes a Great Notion comes to mind) and I was reasonably satisfied with the ending because it could have totally fallen apart but managed to actually not just avoid that but be reasonably consistent with what went before.
Mad Men Season 5 - This show is now up there with The Wire and Deadwood for me (oh my god shock horror no Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones in the top 3), there are 2 scenes in this season (between Peggy and Don) that stayed with me for days.
Boardwalk Empire Season 2 - I liked the first season but didnt love it, the second season though is a very noticeable improvement IMHO. All that setting up in s1 is carried through with in this season and its very involving. They kind of have to reset and restart going forward though so not sure how that will go.

Haven't seen BSG, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones or Boardwalk Empire... am I missing out a bit? haha. Ah well I did actually watch the BE pilot and found it utterly boring. BSG I wouldn't mind watching one day.
I watched The Hunger Games last night. Pretty much as expected, a gameshow movie where players have to fight for their lives etc. Oh how many times have we had this before, I can think of about a dozen. fuck I hate them. Although Battle Royale was actually pretty good. I assume Hunger Games will get good though in the follow up movies, the proper Dystopian future, hot chick vs the evil government type dealie. I guess at least it's realistic and she's not a Jason Stratham killing machine.
 "realistic"
yeah right ;-)

As for the plot, well I didn't see it coming.

Watched this last night for the first time (before the New Year's Eve heavy drinking celebrating really got started). You have to buy in to the underlying zombie mechanism, but once you do it's all good. I decided it was reasonably plausible.
There were still some stupid moments, but overall I found it to be surprisingly entertaining. That's the whole point of a movie, isn't it? I didn't think it was a total waste of time and turn it off anyway.

Odd one this. It all _sounds_ great, setting, cast, director, but it's just not that engaging.
 Agreed,
#5277 posted by Shambler on 2014/01/05 12:07:17
I felt it spent too much time on the rather dull main character, and not enough exposition on how the world ended up how it did, and the mindset and culture of Elysium.
Kona: GOT is essential IMO, it really is as good as it's made out to be.
 God Bless America
is nowhere near as good as the trailer promised. Or at least it was made out to be more comedic perhaps, it was actually quite a sinister film.

I saw this tonight. Pretty good story. After watching it I realized that, basically the only actor was Sandra Bullock. Yeah, George Clooney was there and one other guy for a while anyway, but mostly just Sandra Bullock. And she did a very good job.
When it hit the fan (so to speak) the amount of space debris they needed to do the damage that was shown is pretty much not there. I don't think the world has put that much junk into space yet, and getting it to all home into one target is a whole 'nother story. Other than that it was pretty believable.
The special effects, free-fall stuff, space scenes, etc. all were very well done and convincing.
Sandra Bullock pretty much carries this show. She's a very attractive woman and turns 50 this year - hard to believe isn't it?
