Skill 0 = easy
Skill 1 = noreal
Skill 2 = hard
Skill 3 = nightmare
The first three are usually a confrontment of slightly more monsters.
Nightmare skill comes with ogres that throw grenades more rapidly and act quicker than the first three stages. Also their health can be much tougher. Not sure about other monsters, but I think they'really also harder.
So yeah, nightmare skill is really the hardest one.
To Expand On Skill 3 - Nightmare
The changes in skill 3 are all monster behaviour. They don't actually gain any hitpoints, but they are made much tougher by adding pain resistance. Each monster goes into pain at most once every 5 seconds. In addition, every monster wakes up and starts attacking much faster - in the other skills there's a wake-up delay imposed.
Lastly, most monsters have some specific behaviours added to their attacks, although the changes vary from monster to monster. For example, the Vore's projectiles fly faster on nightmare, the Shambler fires an extra tick of lightning, and as madfox mentions the Ogre (among others) simply fires a lot faster.
The general effect of these changes is that the monsters are a lot more relentless in nightmare. I suppose you could make an argument that the monsters are slightly more predictable in nightmare than in hard - for instance ogres fire so often they don't really ever move while they can see you. But I still think it's hard to make the case that it's ever easier.
No idea what happened..,
I had a real terrible nightmare.
As always, that's exact the pinpoint Preach.
since ericwa removed obj export from his toolset: https://github.com/ericwa/ericw-tools/issues/176
does anyone know any decent way to export an optimized OBJ from a BSP?
Welcome Back Metl & Func.
All working good again now.
Why Do People Feel The Need To Shit On Other FPS Of The Era?
I am rather sadened by the state of the /vr/-doom threads now which are 99% "your favourite game sux no valid reason given". Then there are those who pin the blame on someone from the Quake mapping community called "Alf" and it creates the worst kind of discourse. As I have gotten blocked by certain people on twitter for no reason given (so far) it really does not help build a community. I really hope that something can be done with this, as it is the main reason I am not more active. When we are so few there is no reason to have a few bad seeds ruin it all...
Radical exclusionary purist complaining about negativity and lack of community? Who knew.
What have I done that have angered you so much and what would it take to undo it?
Don't Get Fucking Cute.
My post was clear.
Isn't that kind of the case with any online 'community'? There are sadly always people who disparage others and people who only want a clique (even if they're not aware of being in one). Those people tend to have more voice (and therefore sway) than the reasonable people in any given group.
I find it really hard to cultivate any real presence in para-social groups for that very reason. There's always some mouthpiece (usually under the guise of "just saying how it is" or "just being honest") that taints it for me and I end up leaving for a while only to come back later as a stranger.
I don't come online to niche communities to upset people. I just want to talk about, say, Quake. I'm not interested in why I'm "wrong" all the bloody time or being sneered at for being "butt hurt" when I do call people out.
I have no one. I am an outsider. I have no relation to anyone here. Which is why I ask. I desire to know why things are like this.
I still would like to know what I can do to undo what wrongdoings I have done in the past.
I haven't got the idea you did something wrong, you just entered the space of a person who has no compassion with others.
Madfox I have lots of compassion for you.
I' m most surprised by the way statements sometimes
get rushed with your adequad comments, I turn into purple.
Ignore the cunt. It's brilliant but deeply flawed.
I still would like to know what I can do to undo what wrongdoings I have done in the past.
Acknowledge that Quake maps made for engines with extended limits are still Quake maps. (You rather infamously said otherwise.)
Acknowledge that modern Quake is still Quake. (Same.)
Acknowledge that you are not, in fact, the only person still mapping for Quake 2. (As per the above.)
Acknowledge that func isn't a place for "Quake 2 haters" simply for prefering Quake 1. (That one thread about Sanic Mayhem or however was it called).
Then maybe reflect a bit on your original question.
Wtf Is Going On Here
Reading this thread is like reading an acid-trip laden fight between two people I'm hearing from an apartment over.
As for Qulf,
>I am rather saddened by the state of the /vr/-doom threads now which are 99% "your favorite game sux no valid reason given".
- Welcome to 4chan, it is not an accurate representation of the community and it's literally designed to stunt any community interaction. Leave that shit behind and never think of it again, it can only improve your outlook on the community.
>Then there are those who pin the blame on someone from the Quake mapping community called "Alf" and it creates the worst kind of discourse.
- This sounds like some very old garbage that you shouldn't bother with. Stop listening to nobodies on the state of the somebody community.
>As I have gotten blocked by certain people on twitter for no reason given (so far) it really does not help build a community.
- Twitter is also not the Quake community, I will personally say your constant usage of the catface is extremely annoying, but not enough to block you. As we mentioned a few months ago, you're most likely on some kind of block list, either that or the people who have you blocked have you blocked for a reason you're not willing to reconcile or talk about, which seems more likely.
>I really hope that something can be done with this, as it is the main reason I am not more active. When we are so few there is no reason to have a few bad seeds ruin it all...
-The bad seeds really don't ruin it all, if I am to be frank with you, it seems like you've got some personal issues that you need to sort out. I've personally seen you discredit modern Quake mapping, Quake in and of itself, and many Quake 2 things so.. maybe you should do some introspection before throwing stones?
acid-trip laden fight
This cuts deep, friend.
Just a reminder (and a welcome to quakeulf) that good old #terrafusion is still around for relaxed and liberal community interaction here: https://discord.gg/d5mytUj
, including general gaming / societal chit-chat from a Quake / retro-FPS perspective, and including a place to hammer out these issues in real time if you like. Cunts are welcome, arguing about the validity of Quake 2 is also welcome, as long as you don't get too personal nor stray into unprovoked attacks, and hell, even the word cunt is very welcome. #justsoyouknow
Answer my friend request Bler.
Now that I've finished Control (GOTY) and Metro Exodus (2nd place), I might even play your latest Episode on stream, qulf, IF I can get twatting obs to work again.
Quake Vinyl Soundtrack
I recently stumbled across this messageboard while looking for screenshots for the Quake vinyl soundtrack booklet that was released on the NIN store. The booklet, apparently due to issues with Zenimax, was only available as a pdf and includes a whole mess of "unauthorized images" that are purposely blurred due to said issues. I was wondering if anyone here wouldn't mind taking a look at the pdf to see if you have any clue which screenshots should be used, or if you might be able to find suitable replacements that might correspond to the missing images. The community on Reddit has done a fantastic job so far, but if you have the time to check it out, I would love your input. This seems like an active and knowledgeable Quake community, so if anyone wants to pass it along, that would be fantastic. Everyone involved is hoping to recreate the booklet to the quality the game deserves, so any help would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks so much for your time.
Here's the link on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/nin/comments/iv40u3/recreating_quake_liner_notes_images/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
The archived link is right at the top of the thread with both the original and the replaced image versions as well as the discussion relating to the project. By the way, if you're already aware and possibly involved--sorry for wasting your time. Thanks again.
Hey Check This Out ...
thank god i didn't hire the one who designed func
