Film Thread.
I thought a trio of themed threads about other entertainment media might be good. If you're not interested, please just ignore the thread and pick some threads that interest you from here: http://celephais.net/board/view_all_threads.php

Anyway, discuss films...

Yup. Nothing radical looking but looks like it does the job well.
Oh Gosh....
.. I love the way zombie waves looks like water waves flowing among humans... terrific !

looks completely computer generated imo
Nolan's Gonna Make You Their Bitch
The dark knight rises:
ANY American Pie movie makes more sense. Overly dramatic, pretentiously grandiose popcorn poop. At least with Uwe Boll you know beforehand to switch of your brain and enjoy the scenery. I guess I have another entry to that particular list.

It was so bad I had to watch Liar, Liar today. That was a nice movie.
Not Much Of A Nolan Fan, Are You?
Tell me you at least liked The Prestige? Memento?

The scale of his films is definitely getting out of control, but compared to what else is on the menu blockbuster-wise, I'm not complaining.

Did not watch The Prestige, the setting is absolutely a turn off for me. Magicians, ugh. Memento seems interesting but probably quite psycho. Insomnia was weird, I MUCH preferred the original.

Either you have the weirdest taste in movies ever, or you're doing it on purpose to troll us. Not sure which applies.

When I read about The Prestige, it turned me off as well, but I'm glad I watched it anyway. It's quite nice, with unexpected twists and all, not as gay Copperfield style as it sounds.
Actually
I am sure: it's both at the same time.
Err Yeah
spirit is either the greatest troll ever or just has some of the worst taste in movies.
Not Trolling
do you seriously consider the dark knight movies great? they are pompous with no substance and so full of plot holes and stupid/impossible things.
Yes, They Are.

Gotta Admit
the only one I'd say is great, and still holds up for me
(despite holes) is #2.

I - do not - understand - what - sassy Mister plastic face - is - trying to say - to me.

Well, they are super hero films after all. :P
2 Is Definitely The Best
TDK is _THE_ Batman film, unlikely to be topped, and it finally did justice to the source material. 1 and 3 are good, 3 was a bit of a letdown but still good, just like Inception was a bit of a letdown, but still good.

Nolan focuses so much on having a fast-moving script with twists and turns, that if you think about it afterwards there are inconsistencies at best (or plot holes at worst), a tendency there since Memento. Despite the realistic veneer his movies aren't at all about plausibility but instead about obsession scheming and double-crossing. I hope he stops increasing the scale and goes back to something a calmer, but I haven't disliked any of his films.
#4923 FTW/
Exactly. WTF do you expect from BATMAN?? The basic premise is ludicruous, as is the comic-book background - that Nolan managed to make the idea impressively credible is one of the many triumphs of the trilogy.

I expected some well designed plot.

I thought all the characters were pretty much normal humans, not like Superman, Spiderman etc. Almost all the things they do are possible except for the technological stuff. For example Batman can not fly, he uses some wing suit. So I guess I expected at least the human decisions to be remotely logical. But they aren't.

I mean, if Batman was crushed by Bane earlier why does he go up against him in the same way (fist fight) again later, after his imprisonment in the pit? Why didn't he use his bat sign shaped tranquiliser thingies? Or knives on his fists like he had in the previous movie.

The movies give such a sense of importance and drama(ticality?) that I felt like they meant serious business.
Really
normal humans go around as masked vigilantes and have amped up not even the army has this tech at their disposal?

The decisions are remotely logical in the world they are in, which is not the same as this world.

And yes thematically they are pretty serious, but that doesnt have to translate into reality. Its like games, you can go be immersive and serious without having to forces realism down your throat.

Also, why is almost everything you dont like automatically "pompous" or "pretentious"?
Also
Waling Dead Season 2 - the internet seems to hate it but I thought this was a pretty great season, better than the first and the last 2-3 episodes were seriously good tv.
Walking Dead
Didn't like the second season too much on account of the annoying wife and deputy. But yeah, it got better towards the end. 3rd season is awesome so far, however it's a completely different show than the 1st season. But that's fine as the changes are believable and they result in a better show IMO.

Was the second season the one based on the farm that whole time? That just about put me off the series, I couldn't understand all the hype, I thought it failed at being horror-zombie and was just a farm drama. Dr Quinn fucking Medicine Woman. Boring as hell. Now that they've ventured out it's actually turned into an adventure/horror again and is interesting, and has action and gore! I think we're up to the 3rd episode of S3, in the prison so far, in my country. You guys are probably a bit further ahead.
