 Trailers Are Lose-lose

You watch it and most of the time the movie is spoiled because 95% of the story is in the trailer or you don't watch it and get surprised because the movie wasn't what you expected.

no longer watch thme except when in cinema. I tend to just read a couple of reviews that I trust and that are generally spoiler free.

Watched this after 20 hours on planes, on a crappy screen the size of a postage stamp and forgot to pause it while I went to clean my teeth. It didn't make much sense this way, BUT I'm not sure it would have made much more if I'd been awake and paying attention...

Snowpiercer: Weird surreal movie about society. Nothing new, lots of clichees, bad script/acting, lots of stereotypes and the same old themes any movie/story critical of "our society" has had since the middle ages... Still charming and enthralling to watch. Warning, it is very long. Too surreal for my taste.

Perrier's Bounty: Mediocre british gangster flick with too much conflict and boredom.

Snowpiercer had a lot of clichs but still brought them in kind of a different way I think. It's very surreal and weird though, certainly not for everyone. I enjoyed it a quite a bit.
Grand Budapest Hotel: came in not knowing what to expect, went out feeling all fuzzy. Laughed a lot. Very cutesy/whimsical and very unique sets/cinematography. Prolly gonna watch Anderson's other ones now.

not a fan of wes anderson myself. his movies are all highly rated and kind of art house, but all are so unmemorable and dull. nothing really happens.
fantastic mr fox is the first animated film made for senior citizens, it seems.
haven't seen grand budapest hotel but I have seen most of his others.

Not bad, maybe a little bit "quiet" when compared to other episodes...
.. and poor Wolverine, the most unlucky guy ever: changing the future didn't work well for him :P

Really nice movie. Gives a point of view of the story from the Evil side, with a kind of romantic flavor.. Interesting, while could be considered as a movie for teen-ager girls.. though...
Angelina Jolie is awesome there: I vote her to get an Oscar awards for this movie :)

A nice mix in between Hunger Games and Gatacca... Yet another teen-age movie, enjoyable though.. and this was the first book only, remains two till the end..
Again, the 1st book is far away better than the movie... else it could have been 5 hours long.. :P

New X-Men I loved, though it doesn't take much just a decent story and not fucking everything up like in x1-3. Definitely enjoyed both the new xmen movies more than any other comic book movie (avengers, ironman, spiderman, even dark knight), which I expected. It did drag a bit in the middle, but I'm glad it's not an action-scene every 5mins kind of movie *cough avengers*.
I had some pet peeves. Shadowcat suddenly having new powers and not aging in 20 years. In fact in the future no one seems to have aged much. It was also slightly frustrating that yet again, for the 5th movie in a row, Magneto is the bad guy (well the 4th movie was kind of magento but probably more Shaw). But finally we're getting Apocalypse for the next movie, although he looks like a little girl in the after credits part.
Also as much as everyone loves Wolverine, he already gets his own movie franchise so does he really need to dominate the xmen movies as well?
Anyway for the next movie I just hope they don't go back to modern day xmen. That casting was a disaster for some of them. It just means we already know who survives any xmen movie using the young cast.

is still pretty great, and I think that the tone Singer set therein definitely paved the way for many of what I think are the best superhero movies(dark night, ironman, captain america) in differing and sometimes subtle ways.

certainly not that movie was nothing but a cheesy pastiche of previous x-men movies.

The movie was a two hour "Days of our Lives" marathon with a few teasers for a Godzilla movie during the commercials.

this seems like people will either love it or hate it; it's a vague, slow, Kubrick-esque scifi/horror with very little dialogue or explanation, but some great cinematography and some very disturbing images. I saw an exhibit of Francis Bacon paintings recently and kept thinking about that while watching this.

X-Men - Days Of Future Past : Really good, my favourite in the extensive series. Context is really strong for this, actually gives it some purpose to the superhero dicking around. Start of it is great, characters are pretty good throughout.
Godzilla : Quite okay, escalates nicely and some good spectacles. Crams a lot of different stuff in, it's not just "omg big monster" which is nice, but equally is a bit patchy. The human story / human hero is overdone and the far more interesting background to the monsters is underdone.
The Others : Very good, essentially The Orphanage Lite but that's fair praise indeed. Creepy set-up and creepier characters and unfolds nicely.
The Thing : (the latest remake) Not bad, quite stylishly done, an interesting blend between a sort of remake and and a prequel setting it up well for the 1980's Thing. However it lacks the character and memorability of that classic, and is not as freaky and tense as it should be.
 And Long Overdue...

Edge Of Tomorrow - fuck me this is good. Had high but wary hopes based on the trailer but it's better still - the whole Groundhog Day + Starship Troopers theme is inherently entertaining, but it's smart, well-paced, good characters and surprisingly funny. Definitely continues in the trend of well done sci-fi from a few years ago like District 9 and Source Code. Only regret is I didn't watch it earlier so I could catch it at the cinema again.

 Some Tv

well specifically some Scandinavian tv. Have had these lying around for a while so finally fired them up.
Forbrydelsen 1 (The Killing 1) - I've seen the American remake and I quite liked it despite some obvious flaws. The remake's plotting was a bit spotty but I liked a lot of the characterisations and acting and especially the atmosphere.
The original has the same good points as the remake but the plotting is much much superior and even the acting, characterisations and atmosphere are also better pulled off. This is probably hands down one of the best seasons of tv ever made.
Broen/Bron 1 (The Bridge 1) - Havent seen the US remake yet although will check it out as I have heard good things about that from trusted sources.
This is a little more pulpy plot wise than Forbrydelsen but otherwise IMHO just as brilliant in characterisation and acting, and probably superior in atmosphere.
If you are not averse to subtitles, these come highly recommended. Havent had time to watch Forbrydelsen 2 and 3 or Broen 2 yet.
