I'm literally looking forward to Crimson Desert on PC
trailer shows no crimson, no desert, and gameplay starts a bit late. And camera looks pretty janky. But could be cool....
Crimson Desert looked great until the cartoon green orc mens turned up :(
I'd be more than willing to overlook the green men based on the rest.
I didn't see any cartoon green orc mens??
I did see some truly appalling motion blur and almost equally bad sparking lighting effects in combat tho.
I've been playing this puzzle platformer that just recently came out, it's pretty cool. It's got vibes similar to VVVVVV. It took me about 2.5 hours to get to the ending, but there are still some secret items to collect which I haven't found yet. So maybe that's another hour of gameplay?
So Scorn just came out. I didn't get great impressions from the previous gameplay videos, but I am a sucker for the Giger/Beksinski aesthetic and they seem to be hitting that. I might give it a try.
Anybody played it yet?
I've given it a few hours and stopped early in Act III. It's really stunning visually and the sound design is just as detailed.
The gameplay is mostly puzzle solving and exploration. I have a pretty strong stomach but there are some truly disgusting moments in the game. At one point early on I actually got nauseous.
The combat is very simplistic and unforgiving. I've only fought two monsters though and only have the first weapon. The controls are very stiff. I think that's my biggest complaint. It's really bad but the ambience of the world is so distracting you kind of forget about it.
It's pretty short from what I hear so might want to try it on Xbox Gamepass if you are on that service. Or wait for it to go on sale.
I came here wondering if people would be discussing Scorn. I haven't played it myself but I watched a little game play. I have heard nothing but bad things about it but I am intrigued. The atmosphere and the visuals are amazing. I have been listening to the soundtrack for the past week and for the most part, it is just as mesmerizing as the art direction.
The combat looks terrible and it seems like it was tacked on because the atmosphere that they tried to create necessitated having a threat to the player. However, that might be a bit bold of a statement considering that I haven't seen too much yet.
I have never particularly wanted to play a game solely for the atmosphere but this one is an exception. I hope to get around to it some day. I suspect that I will enjoy it more than most since I am aware that I should expect bad combat.
I hear H.R. Giger's name tossed around a lot but I wonder why nobody mentions Zdzisław Beksiński. It seems like his artwork had a clear influence over the designers, and this is the first game that I've seen that tries to incorporate elements of his style into the environment.
It's Visually Stunning But
It's very puzzle oriented. Combat is unforgiving. Mostly Giger but plenty of other visual references throughout and yes Beksiński is represented. I stopped playing as I have other games that are higher on my list right now.
I think this is part of getting old, but I just can't play any new games. They all feel like mediocre attempts at movie-making, completely misusing the interactivity available to them. Cutscene here, press buttons in sequence, cutscene there, press different buttons in different sequence.
Got a PS5 recently and been playing the Plus Catalog. Everything sucks. The games are simply not fun, they are just tech demos. Death Stranding is a joke. Horizon, The Surge, Days Gone, Uncharted, all repetitive and boring. Demon's Souls was the only title that had some fun in it, but quickly weared out.
Back to PC, spin up Q1 or Q3 and it's just pickup, have fun.
It Will Be Realised Someday
So there's no developer or anything yet, just McGee's drawings.
"Each new concept image can cost between $750 and $1200 depending on the style, complexity of the image, and artist in question."
1 concept picture = $1200? Crikey.
Anyway, yes here's hoping, but could be years away. I was never really into the puzzles in these games and it looks like this will be mostly puzzles/exploration, only 20% combat, but the art was always good for it's time. A new Alice game to current standards could look amazing.
End Of The Adventure
that's a bummer. alice was a great game.
what are the best looking Q3A levels? q3gwdm1 and q3gwdm2?
It might not be for everyone but http://lunaran.com/maps/quake3/lun3dm5/
blew me away. Loved reading about how it was created too
Q3A: there is limited number of bots to select from. how do I add a bot w/ certain skin like Stroggo, Krusade or Roderic pls? what console command does that? thanks
there is something about skins under addbot command in this http://www.joz3d.net/html/q3console.html
how-to but what is the correct syntax pls? can not get it working
I don't think that is possible. The bots and their models/skins are defined in bots.txt file, main game has one in pak0.pk3 file. Some community made maps usually also have bots added like that in their own .pk3 files. And if these bots are defined in these scripts, they can be easily added through the GUI menu without any console commands.
If you use addbot command in Q3A, it shows you the syntax:
Usage: Addbot <botname> [skill 1-5] [team] [msec delay] [altname]
<botname> is the bot entry from bots.txt file. As you can see, with this command you can't add a bot with different skin, only different name, like for example
\addbot orb 3 blue 50 Eye
will add a bot with name Eye which is really just Orb (model, skin, sounds, etc).
possible to play Q3 Team Arena w/ the OG vanilla game HUD pls?
no way to have smooth Q3A aiming (VSync OFF) and smooth bot movement (VSync ON) at the same time pls? I do not see any frame cap option neither in-game nor in config...
found it, so VSync OFF and com_maxfps 125 is the smoothest overall solution for 85Hz screen?
